It was created by Anahid Nazarian, Director of the American Zoetrope Research Library, when she was working on a film:

"I researched the different patterns for various countries, and many of them consisted of leaves and some of them looked similar to grape leaves. So I thought it would be fun to have a camouflage pattern made out of grape leaves."

Vinoflage a Big Hit with Our Troops in Iraq
Chris Morisoli, a 1st Lieutenant stationed in Iraq, was thrilled when he received a care package from Anahaid Nazarian. It included a Vinoflage shirt and quickly grabbed the attention of his medical rescue platoon who wanted to purchase their own shirts. When Francis and Eleanor heard this, they put together a donation of shirts and sent them out to Chris and his platoon. Chris, who grew up living next-door to the Coppolas, sent the following letter along with photos of himself and his fellow soldiers in their new Vinoflage shirts: 

"To Anahid, Francis and Ellie!
The Vinoflage shirts have arrived! They showed up on our ring route and my guys are absolutely digging them. Everyone was wearing them throughout our compound today, it was hilarious. So we got a picture too of everyone in front of the helicopter. It is classic. Thank you so much for donating them, Francis and Ellie!  And Anahid, thanks for getting them out to us so quickly. You should see the looks we are getting from other troopers as they walk around our area. I think that they believe it is the newest super-secret camo. But seriously, the shirts came at the perfect time, because it's that time of the deployment that everyone is sick of seeing each other, so the shirts are a huge morale booster. It is now the new uniform (set by me) for anyone sitting at the Tiki Bar!
